ACORN ANTIQUES THE MUSICAL

Set in Manchesterford, The High Street is under threat and is up for sale and Miss Babs (Chloe Turner) and Miss Berta (Jan Brennan) her younger twin sister. -I can’t believe I read that in the Synopsis!! discover that they can inherit their fathers fortune and save the High Street. That is the basis of the play written by Victoria Wood, which enabled the cast to create their own performance and characters. I did not recognise any individual copy performance with the exception of Mrs Overall outstandingly played by Kim Topham. The whole cast were excellent and the Company number opening Act 1 and the ensemble Act One Finale (Doing the Tip Tap Top) were terrific and fully deserved the appreciative applause and merited the Reprise. The choreography throughout was excellent and the ensemble responded with accomplished dancing and movement. Musically I doubt if anyone in the audience recognised any of the Tunes but we all enjoyed their performance and there are some very fine voices in this  It was a brave choice choosing this relatively unknown musical but the superb performance fully vindicated the choice. This small village Society continues to flourish and provides first class entertainment by a talented pool of performers.
