Thank you to Kettering and District Theatrical Society for inviting me to see " Acorn Antiques ". Having never seen this musical before, I was really looking forward to it, and I was not disappointed, what a delightful piece of theatre ! The audience was laughing from the opening right through to the curtain calls.
Congratulations to Barry Currall for his excellent direction, I think this must have been a very difficult musical to direct. The actors were all well cast in their roles, well rehearsed and all maintained their characters throughout the show. The musical had a very good pace throughout, and the directors enthusiasm clearly showed through the actors performances. Well done Barry !
Musical director, Barbara Hockey did an excellent job too, overall both principal and chorus singing was of a very good standard. The band consisted of six fine musicians who gave excellent backing to all the musical numbers.
I loved Katrina Rufeea's choreography, there were some very good routines, and Katrina managed to bring out the humour of the piece through the dancing. Well done also for her portrayal of Bonnie.
There were some very credible performances from the cast, it would be unfair of me to single out individual actors as they all did so well, however, I must mention Kate Clennett who played the iconic role of Mrs Overall, I really can't praise this performance enough, her attention to the characters mannerisms and speech was excellent and was maintained throughout the musical. Well done to Kate for this.
The technical team for Acorn Antiques achieved a high standard. The sets were all very good and managed well by the stage crew. The lighting and sound were both very effective and well executed. The costumes and wigs were all very good and greatly enhanced the production. The props were good and well executed too.
Overall this production achieved a really high standard and there was very little to find fault with. This was the opening night and there were a few small hiccups, but these did not spoil the performance.
Congratulations to the entire company of Acorn Antiques for what was a very funny and most enjoyable evening. Thank you too for the wonderful hospitality shown to my guest and myself.
