As always, the Bohemians brought to the Edinburgh Fringe another sparkling and dynamic concert, ‘Absolutely Iconic’. This was certainly an evening when one could just sit back and enjoy the many iconic musical numbers old and new. A most eclectic selection of songs was cleverly compiled and had the audience enthralled and at times almost desperate to join in. Most of the numbers were very familiar varying in mood and tempo and demonstrated not only the strength of the ensemble work but also the many talented soloist in this company.

‘I Will Survive’ got the evening off to a lively start with both the soloists and ensemble setting the tone and standard of what was to come. The big company numbers were all vocally very strong with harmonies coming through loud and clear. Every number was performed with spirit and enthusiasm and the detailed choreography executed with precision by all of the company.

‘Somebody To Love’, ‘I Got Rhythm’ and the ever popular ‘Oklahoma’ were just a few of the rousing numbers which were vivacious, animated and vibrant. In contrast we were treated to some sublime solo numbers. ‘Empty Chairs’, ‘Send In the Clowns’ and ‘Gethsemane’, which was extremely powerful, were all sung with real emotion.

The Bo’s are fortunate in having strong male singers and dancers who were in great form as the ‘Jersey Boys’ and playing up to ‘Officer Krupke’.

‘Ladies Who Lunch’, ‘You’ll Be Back’. ‘Worst Pies in London’ and ‘Anything You Can Do’, were light hearted and well articulated.

There were some wonderful duets and small ensemble numbers with a most impressive blend of voices and wonderful vocal arrangements. ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’ ‘Come What May’ and ‘Tell Me It’s Not True’ were thought provoking with part singing very clear and voices blending well.

The boisterous ‘Candy Store ‘ was new to me and most enjoyable.

With 26 numbers in the programme it is difficult to mention everything but suffice to say that this was a fabulous concert which moved along at a great pace showcasing the skills and talent within the company. The rousing ‘When You Believe’ was absolutely riveting.

The final ‘500 Miles’ advertising the Bo’s spring production ‘Sunshine on Leith’ was quite electrifying and I’m sure had the audience noting that this was a show they must see.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and well presented concert which was well deserving of the standing ovation and audience appreciation. Congratulations to the exuberant cast, the most supportive small band and the production team who had undoubtedly worked extremely hard to make this such an exhilarating, entertaining production.
