~~We were treated to two plays during the evening, ‘Interior Designs’ and ‘The Regina Monologues’. Both of the plays were directed by Carol Grice, and what a superb job she did.
Women rule in this double bill with two of the cast, Clair Tregellis and Anne Troman appearing in both.
In the opening play ‘Interior Designs’ three women and the token man (Thom Handley) make up the cast plus a guest spot by Clive Barlow. Clair Tregellis as newscaster Holly, Anne Troman as Amy and Liz Bennett as teacher Irene were a joy to watch. Set on a very simple but impressive set we see these frustrated women’s approaches to handyman Jack (Thom). I was really impressed with this play as the only scenery Carol used was three chairs and a set of ladders, which were all used to maximum effect.
The second play was ‘The Regina Monologues’ which is based on the Six Wives of Henry VIII. The curtain opened with six women sitting on either chairs or a bed and we heard of their personal problems, each having been married to the same man. There was never a dull moment as they switched positions on stage several times. I have great admiration for these ladies for learning such big chunks of dialogue. Stunning performances not only from Clair and Anne but Beth Howell, Jenny Culligan, Amy Tregellis and Jean Kerby.
