With a principal and ensemble line up of nine ladies and nine gentlemen, backed up by a large choir plus West End Star Rosemany Ashe, this concert could not fail to entertain.
The first half was the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The men gave us a spirited rendering of “There is Nothing like a Dame”, and Rosemary Ashe fronted “June is Bustin' Out All Over”. Greg Walker gave a really lovely performance of “Some Enchanted Evening”, and Charlotte Williamson led the children in an enjoyable “Do Ri Me”
A very good arrangement of “Climb Every Mountain” was performed by Rosemary Ashe, Virginia Meir and Hanna-Lisa Kirchen.
The Soloists and whole Company were involved in numbers from the Composers' other classics, “State Fair”, “Oklahoma!” and “The King and I”.
The second half of this very enjoyable production was devoted to the music of Andrew Lloyd-Webber including the well known numbers from “Phantom of the Opera”, “Tell me on a Sunday”, “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”.
Very good performances came from Shelly Anne Rivers “Love Never Dies”, Andrew Talbot
“The First Man You Remember” (Aspects of Love”), Oliver Davies the title song from “Sunset Boulevard” , Greg Walker “The Greatest Star Of All” and Rosemary Ashe “With One Look” both from “Sunset Boulevard”.
The finale was “Jesus Christ Superstar” by the Soloists, Ensemble and Choir.
The Production was very well staged accompanied by an excellent Orchestra who supported the Company well.
There were problems with the lighting, often the soloists were left in the dark for their final note.
