Startime Variety are an impressive, enthusiastic and hardworking company with a strong ethos and love for Amateur Dramatics. But most of all, they are a company who know how to have fun and support one another!

After seeing their wonderful collaborative skills in producing Pantomimes, this is the first concert I have seen from a company who just keeps on giving! The evening was a perfect dose of what was needed on a Friday night.

The venue of Providence Methodist Church was ideal and the atmosphere gave such a nice feeling of a community with a pleasant and welcoming environment. It was an evening that required nothing more than a perfectly stripped back platform with simple microphones on stands (however I think only 2 microphones were consistently working?)

I was deeply looking forward to hearing the acoustics of the place and what Startime Variety could bring to this venue and the audience.

What the company brought was quite simply pure and honest entertainment, with an abundance of smiles which were infectious!

The platform was used very well with some musical numbers coming alive with dance routines and quick little costume touches. Some members of the company really went for it with their numbers! There were some very committed dance moves. I loved it! The audience absolutely loved it too, including two young girls who knew all the words to the song “Ex-Wives” from the Musical “Six”.

The choices of the songs from A-Z were a nice mix of contemporary, musicals and popular music and I was pleased to see in the programme a well thought out selection. There were some stand-alone tunes and some obscure enough to question “how is this going to work?” which not only kept my interest, but I am very pleased to say my anticipation was often rewarded with some nice surprises.

Thank you so much for the kind invitation and a wonderful evening. I really hope to see you again soon.
