A very clever compilation from Tracey and Steve displaying all the talents on stage: liked the way that the songs were mixed in ‘themes’ rather than a ‘block’ from a show as this made the whole programme more flexible and enjoyable. So pleased that the youngsters from Sheringham Little Theatre production followed Tracey into this show, doubled the size of the Mundesley Players cast to offer more opportunities, and to show off all that young talent from the area. All linked well by Tony Loftus from the armchair.
A rousing start to the programme with ‘Rhythm of Life’ as a big production number (excellent groupings and shapes) to begin the rhythm and music/song section, followed by the adults/teenage renditions well executed ‘I got Rhythm’, ‘Music of Night’, ‘Sound of Music’ into ‘ Do you hear the people sing’. Then the starring ‘tinies’ with superb projection about animals from ‘Lion King’. ‘Cats’, and ‘Jungle Book’, a really good interlude to steal that section of the show, followed by ‘teenager time’ for ‘Chitty Bang Bang’. (Did recognise Anthony Loftus, Joe Annison, and Zaira Palumbo as teenage soloists from Sheringham production of ‘Les Miserables’ in the company).
Complete contrast to a ballad from ‘Moulin Rouge’ beautifully sung (no programme so no names, just alphabetical cast list), and then a cleverly interwoven mix of ‘JCSS’ and ‘Day by Day’ for soloists and company, before the finale Act 1 selection from ‘Joseph’, and this was great for all ages to enjoy singing and have fun.
Following the supper interval, it was all systems go with energy into the ABBA selection; and then we moved on to ‘the streets’ featuring hope of tomorrow, and lamp-posts, and rain, a stirring duet rendition of ‘Javert’s Suicide’, and an excellent company harmony arrangement of ‘Memories’.
And Tony announced a trip to the pub for a big knees-up and rousing company sing-song including the mix from ‘Oliver’, My Fair Lady’ and ‘Les Miserables’ as a noisy finish much appreciated by the full-house audiences.
What an excellent entertainment for all residents of Mundesley and holiday makers during the week, amazing that the energy levels can be raised so high by the inclusion of the younger element and increase in numbers on stage, do hope that the new members stay with you in the future to continue to raise the bar.
And a new MD Steve in the area (from singing teacher and bass player in bands to keyboard, and accompanying drums beat Micky Peters) with good syncopation skills!
