A joyous way to start the Christmas season, my thanks to TADS for really putting me in the Christmas spirit. Nice to see Covid restrictions continue to be adhered to, with the majority of the audience wearing masks and socially distanced.
The set was fairly simple, but very effective and colourful, with good lighting and effects to really bring it all to life. I liked the different levels and places for everyone to sit, which made it inclusive but nicely spaced. In the main costumes were colourful, I particularly liked the Christmas jumper outfit, but the sparkly dresses were good too.
The cast of 11 ladies – Elise Crosby, Jenny De Filippo, Rachael Horsler, Emma Lidford, Lea Pryer, Michelle Scowen, Michelle Stanton, Emile Venn, Sophie Venn, Julie Walton and Claire Wilden performed the musical numbers chosen very well, I loved Act 1, but felt Act 2 was a little slow in places.
Michelle Stanton, in her first directorial role, showed a good understanding of stage placement, and narrated well, giving explanations of the reasons behind the song choices, and introducing the various cast members.
Deck the Halls and 12 Days of Christmas were fun numbers, with the cast letting their hair down, and I liked the addition of signing in White Christmas and the finale.
It was good to see a variety of age groups on stage, and helping FoH.
Suffice to say, there were several stand out performances, but I feel it would be unfair to single people out in what was essentially an ensemble piece, so well done everyone, you certainly looked as if you were enjoying yourselves, thus conveying the feel good factor to the audience.
My thanks to TADS for their hospitality and a super afternoon’s entertainment.
