The packed audience were treated to a wonderful selection of tunes from the shows. I counted 24 in total. These ranged from “The Pirates Of Penzance” through “South Pacific” right up to “Dear Evan Hansen”. Every song was brilliantly interpreted by a most accomplished choir. The Parish Church is the ideal place for this kind of event as its acoustics are good  and everyone can see the performers from wherever they are seated in the nave or balcony. Beginning with What I did For Love from “A Chorus Line” we were richly entertained. Many of the songs I knew yet some of them I did not. So It was a joy to return home and put names to the shows that the songs came from. There was so much to appreciate. Every song was interpreted by soloists who clearly loved performing and were eager to ring every nuance of passion or meaning. If I could use just one word to sum up the afternoon I would choose class. The pace of the show was remarkable. One song seamlessly gave way to another with the minimum of fuss. It was intriguing to see from which part of the 43 strong ensemble the next soloist would come. Energy  vibrancy and a keen regard for the audience made this show a real pleasure. I am sure every member of the audience, treated to refreshments at the interval by the way, would have a personal favourite. If I say I am a dedicated fan of Sara Bareilles, you can probably guess which one! Yet this is not the kind of review to choose one performance or performer over any other.

David Hulme the director should be  very proud of his achievement. And what about Trevor Lord? Yes a special round of applause for the incredible accompanist was wholeheartedly offered and thoroughly deserved.

Looking in my diary I see that I already have an engagement on the day of the concert to celebrate the church’s 1800th anniversary.  I will lay a bet they will still be talking in 2922 about the stunning concert that was staged in  2022.

Thank you for serenading us so well on a balmy Lancashire Sunday afternoon in summertime.
