Every so often a play comes along which you should not miss. This was one of them. Director Debbie Loweth should be proud of this very powerful and moving production.
Blanche Dubois ( Emily Armstrong) is a fragile southern belle who is visiting her sister in New Orleans. She has a leave of absence from her teaching job because of her nerves. In reality Blanche lives in her own world. Emily gave a very powerful performance and deserved all the praise she received. The large pieces of dialogue she had to learn were immense but she did it, without faulting. Playing her sister, Stella Kowalski, was Phebe Jackson who together with Robbie Newton as Stanley Kowalski supported well and gave very believable performances and kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The scene where Blanche and Stanley were on their own and she tries to defend herself with a broken bottle was breathtaking.
Dexter Whitehead played mild mannered Mitch who tries to help Blanche but to no avail. Debbie's production was so well cast no faults could be found.
The set, designed by Mark Natrass looked so good and the lighting and sound effects complemented the production.
