Rugby Theatre performed A Street Car Named Desire, a story following Blanche Du Bois, who went to stay with her sister and brother in law in New Orleans, where reality and fantasies collide.

The core four principal cast consists of Chris Allen-Mason as Stanley, who is married to Stella. Stanley is very suspicious of Blanche and can be a bit rough. Chris was very convincing in the role.

Hollybeth Gourlay as Stella who is torn between her husband and sister, showed the turmoil and confliction Stella faced.

Mia Ballard, as Blanche was excellent in portraying a woman slowly descending into a nervous breakdown.

Gareth Cooper as Harold “Mitch” Mitchell, Stanley's friend and love interest of Blanche. Gareth played the role showing the sensitive and sweet nature it required.

The four were all excellent in their roles as individuals and working with each other with characterization, chemistry and were mesmorizing to watch. There were plenty of lines to learn and to maintain in an accent which was pulled off with ease.

The cast was superbly supported by Eunice Hubble (Rosie Collins), Steve Hubble/Young Man/Collector (Archie Parker), Pablo Gonzalez (Dave Cooper) Neighbour/Nurse (Carolien Knight)  Doctor (Ash Hirons)  Flower Seller (Jill Dwyer)

The set and lighting added to a wonderful directed drama performance.
