Following a small technical delay the audience was swept away on an evening of Christmas cheer, based on an impressive combination of Stourport Choral, backed by the Stourport Brass Band with support from Lickhill Park Primary School Choir. The hall was decked with Christmas trees and lights and with a visit from Santa we were all well and truly put in the mood for Christmas.
After a rousing rendition of ‘The Twelve days of Christmas’ from the band, the school choir gave us three well prepared numbers and all credit is due to the young soloists. Whilst these days when mics are all too often used, I did think that some amplification would have helped lift their voices to the rear of the hall, but they were all nevertheless enjoyable and did their school proud. I would reiterate the thanks due to the teaching staff of Jane Lloyd and Kelly Rodriguez for their time and effort which I am sure only represents all the hard work and extra miles that teachers across the country are putting in as Christmas approaches and throughout the year.
Both choir and band were well led by Alastair Elliott and Ollie Wilson respectively, and able support was provided by Angela Allard as Accompanist. Alastair and Ollie kept us amused with a selection of Christmas jokes throughout the links between musical numbers.
The varied programme included some notable solo work from Jim Parker (’When a Child is Born’) and Mary Sinclair (‘Christmas Song’) and an opportunity for us all to join in with some of our favourite Christmas carols, all topped off with a lovely version of ‘White Christmas’ by the choir and band.
Thank you Stourport Choral for your warm welcome and a very enjoyable evening.
