To end the year on a high note, I was very pleased to attend the Christmas Concert “A Sparkling Christmas” which was held over 2 performances in December,by the Great Horton Theatre Company.

It gave joy to its audience with the singers performing a number of songs, both old, new and past and present favourites. The repertoire also included a selection of carols to which the audience were invited to sing along with. The annual Christmas quiz hosted by Richard Bentley was as ever a favourite amongst the audience.

The programme had such festive variation, with both solo and whole company numbers interspersed with duets and trios that took advantage of both the individual talents within the company, while ensuring that every performer was fully involved. Particular favourites of mine were “When Christmas Comes” sung by their youngest member Rhya Newell, “Merry Christmas Darling” sung by Geraldine Kilduff and the carols "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Audrey O’Keefe narrated and sang “When A Child is Born” the words of which really hit home the true meaning of Christmas.

This year the company was under the musical direction of Ken Gilroy who did a fantastic job.

The Great Horton Theatre Company has succeeded in doing what it does best, maintained the loyalty of its membership, supported the charity Marie Curie Cancer Appeal, and brought a great start to Christmas.

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.
