Aptly titled, this show ticked all the boxes providing a variety of season appropriate songs for showers and sunshine. The company of fifteen, attired in raincoats and ponchos, opened with The Rhythm of Rain and continued with some well known favourites like Windy City, Singing in the Rain and Rhinestone Cowboy the latter enhanced by tap dancing. Comedy came to the fore in the likes of The Welly Boot Song. These were interspersed by less well known but engagingly sung numbers like Ironic and Neverending Story before closing Part One with a pleasing blend of voices and harmonies in Turn, Turn, Turn. With the company now dressed in summery clothes, Part Two transported us to sunnier climes with Surfin’ , a well sung solo of Oh What A Beautiful Morning, a robust and keen Summer Nights between lads and lassies before coming back home with a haunting Sunshine on Leith. Variety was maintained with Weather With You, Under The Boardwalk and Summer of ‘69, which era some of us could well remember! Rounding the evening off, Hi Ho Silver Lining delighted everyone. Trios Gillian, Terri, Kirstie and Alan Terri and Gillian were well matched and the singers of duets, Ricky and Alan, and Jason and Gillian were equally so and all delivered smoothly. The soloists - Gillian, Terri, Hugh, Kevin, Simon and Alan - all performed confidently with emotional expression and clear diction. Overall the songs were well arranged and characterised, with music pitched to compliment the company’s voices. Judicious positioning and movement enabled the company to show its talents. The whole concert was enhanced by back drops of thunder and then warmer climes of a Mediterranean cafe scene. Lots of thought and effort had gone into this production which gave this appreciative audience a delightful evening’s entertainment.
