There was a very informal and relaxed atmosphere in the hall as the audience sat at tables cabaret style enjoying some refreshments. A varied and interesting programme had been compiled with very cleverly chosen numbers all of which had a connection with Scotland. All had either been performed by a Scottish band or singer who had in some way or another Scottish routes and indeed I learned a lot about the origins of the various groups and artists. Forth Dimensions encourages youngsters and it was so good to see the younger members of the company perform alongside the adult members. Together they made a great sound particularly in the Proclaimers Medley which got the audience going in the first half. They had great fun “In the Brownies” a Billy Connelly favourite also in “Baker Street” a tribute to Gerry Rafferty which had been choreographed and dressed to suit the period. As well as some strong chorus numbers there were some fine solo performers “Run” sung by Caty Kerr, “True Colours” sung by Megan Beveridge and “In Demand” sung by Amy Hogg being just a few examples. I had never heard “The Kelty Clippie” before and David Hodgson gave a most humorous rendition of the song. The whole evening was full of fun and enthusiasm and the audience thoroughly enjoyed being able to foot tap and sing along. The cabaret came to a rousing and patriotic ending with Rod Stewart’s “Purple Heather” “Caledonia” and the Runrig version of “Loch Lomond” before” Auld Lang Syne”.
This was a very different evening and one which was certainly enjoyed by all on stage and in the audience. Well done !
