A NI

EODS have in recent times included in their annual programme a production which is essentially based on individual musical numbers. It has been a successful concept always with a theme and underpinned with all you would expect to provide the audience with that special and unique theatrical experience.

This production took as its theme music that has shaped the film industry with a selection of songs from everything that is Hollywood and the Silver screen. It is not possible to single out any individual as everyone on stage in their own special way gave a performance which deserves enormous praise; their respective contributions injecting a different and new dimension to a programme that was fresh and exciting, driven by great talent from the whole company.

The use of innovative lighting, colour and stage effects coupled with imaginative choreography and stunning costume changes were there to enhance the wonderful selection of music and quality backing tracks that was chosen from the original 100 or so pieces. The final list narrowed down to 38 songs that spanned a generation of big screen music.

From a superbly costumed ‘black tie’ opening with the song ‘Movies were Movies’ through to the final number , songs benefited from a variety of screen projection film clips to accompany them along with enthusiasm, energy and enjoyment from all the cast members. The inclusion of a ‘Pearl & Dean’ type video with local advertisements on screens, at the start of each half and sale of popcorn in the foyer was a nice cinematic touch.

This show was about the wealth of musical pieces that the film industry have given us and whether solo’s duets octet’s or big chorus numbers they were delivered and performed in strength and harmony. Variety of the pieces made for a  most enjoyable and entertaining evening .

Thank you EODS for your hospitality at ‘A Night at the Movies’.
