“A Musical Journey” was the title of this concert by South Shields G & S Society, and it certainly was just that.

The journey covered many miles, from Scarborough, to Ireland, Babylon, Dallas, New York, Baltimore, Rotterdam, San Jose, Acapulco, New England to Africa, and many more destinations.
A very imaginative and very well-planned programme of music, excellently executed by such a very talented group.

The opening number “Ease on Down the Road” set the scene for a very enjoyable journey.
The musical arrangements for some of numbers in the show, such as “Somewhere Out There”, “Wherever you Will Go”, “The Long and Winding Road”, were superb. The outstanding arrangement by Steph for me was the acappella number of “Dallas” which was performed to a very high standard.

The “Full Company” numbers, such as “Homeward Bound, Rivers of Babylon, 500 miles, New York, and I Vow To Thee My Country, and the finale number of “Take Me Home Country Road” were all very enthusiastic and enjoyable.

It would be unfair of me to single out one person or group of people, as everyone on that stage had their own job to do, from solo’s to group work and full company numbers. It was a huge team effort.

The Pier Pavilion stage was the perfect setting for this concert, with simple and effective staging, and with the cast all looking smart and colourful.

Well done G & S for a very enjoyable musical journey.  Congratulations to Natalie and Stephanie, and to Jonny on keyboard and Peter on drums.

When the cast on stage are enjoying every minute, it overflows to the audience, and it certainly did that.  A well deserved standing ovation.
