Riverside MTC used the theme of a journey around the world as the basis for their jam packed concert which included 45 songs from 18 different musicals. Many members were given the opportunity to have their moment to shine with solos, duets and group work together with some experienced guests to support them.

The ensemble were well dressed and their movement was well rehearsed and slick, the eight young people making up the children’s chorus were very good and performed their numbers particularly well, my personal favourites being the “Matilda” numbers.

Musical support to the company was provided by a four piece band and the whole evening was compared with style and a touch of comedy by David Brown. There was good lighting and sound throughout.

With such a full programme it is impossible for me to mention everyone, and names weren’t listed against the songs in the programme, but these were my personal favourites; the “Half a Sixpence” section led by Lawrence Chadwick, the “Phantom of the Opera” numbers led by Lee Brannigan and Kathy Bevan, a selection from “Fiddler on the Roof” led by Pete Johnson, “The Lion King” songs featuring Lee Brannigan, Pete Johnson and David Patrick, the “Chicago” selection and in particular the “Cell Block Tango” featuring six of the ladies, the “Miss Saigon” Section with Pete Johnson, Jenn Tweddell and Lee Brannigan and finally the glitzy “Top Hat” finale.

Well done to all, everyone on stage looked like they were enjoying the experience and a concert of this size and content doesn’t come together without a huge amount of commitment and dedication from the cast and production team.
