“A LAD IN” is the Theats first adult pantomime and after tonight’s flawless performance I don’t think it will be their last. The direction by Alan Galway was excellent - it had a great pace and great casting. The performance had some lovely and memorable musical moments from musical director, Barbara Hockey, who also accompanied on the key board. The production was quite a traditional pantomime, with a few twists and lots of adult humour.
There were superb performances from the seven actors. Daniel Fortune was a very energetic and enthusiastic A lad in. Luke Simcoe played an excellent Widow Twankey and Martin Brown was super as Abendover; these three performers all had an excellent rapport with the audience and right from the opening had us all booing, cheering, clapping and joining in with just as much relish as they had. Tom Arnold was a very camp and very funny Spirit of the Ring. Belinda Steward played the Empress with a great deal of confidence and humour. Sian Evens played her daughter Princess Jizzmine equally well and Alice Lupton gave a confident and composed performance as the Genie of the Lamp. All the cast should be congratulated on their performances they worked hard as a team and kept the laughter going throughout the evening. Well done! There was not much in the way of scenery but the pace of the piece meant it was not really necessary. The costumes were excellent as was the make-up. The lighting and sound quality was excellent throughout the performance. Congratulations Theats for this first class adult entertainment that was hilariously funny from the opening to the curtain down. I along with the rest of the audience had a thoroughly enjoyable evening!
