May Archer, an elderly widow, has invited to her London semi, several salesmen. First to arrive is Warren, a new contact-wearing wardrobe salesman, followed by Desmond (home security). He has a wealth of experience, more than Warren. Next on the scene are Stan and Angela keen to size-up May's bedroom for decoration. Last to appear, the sexy Jilly arrives with her electric keyboard. All adopt a persona they think will persuade May to put her money their way, but May is unable to take her eyes from the telly and her plunger. This madcap comedy comes to a conclusion when May states she only wanted someone to talk to. A good solid set (Stewart Currie & Steve Lukas) worked well on the small stage, nicely lit by Isobel Currie and perfect sound effects, expertly handled by Kirsty Hintze.
Ullie Lukas, you took this very funny comedy and directed your cast to a high standard for such a small stage. You made each individual actor get into his own character and this showed so well. Warren (Jesse Cooper) fumbled his way through perfectly as this character loosing his contact lens in the process, Carol Ore played a good controlled May, keeping them all on tenterhooks - will she, won't she? Darren Thomas played the role of Desmond Donohoe expertly and his Irish accent was stupendous and had longevity all the way through the piece. Stan and Angela’s (Steve Lukas and Wendy Wilson) hot’s for one another certainly came to a head, in the bedroom. Well done to Steve for standing in at the last minute, not an easy task. Last but not least the sexy Jilly Jordan (Julia Bennett) she oozed sex-appeal on the two men and this was very convincing; well acted indeed. This cast gave credit to this Richard Harris play, with good performances all round.
