This was my first visit to this brand new society in Millom, I was very impressed by their enthusiasm and commitment. The performance took place in the Alexandra Hall at Millom school and to say the backstage facilities were adequate would be an understatement, but they got over the problems extremely well.
This musical version of Dicken’s famous story was well led by Terry Minter as Ebenezer Scrooge, but I felt his ‘humbug ‘ didn’t last long enough, he became too nice rather too quickly. Every other character was well played and the young enthusiastic chorus performed the musical numbers with great aplomb, although at times the pre recorded music was slightly out of sync. The ghost scenes were well performed and the company made very good use of the auditorium, during those scenes and the Victorian street scenes.
The costume department had done a sterling job, all costumes were well made, as was the set, in fact this was a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment all round.
Well done to this new society for taking on this demanding show with very limited facilities, they pulled it off extremely well. I look forward to enjoying more visits to this new NODA society,
