This is what this society does best, comedy and drama and music all jelled together with some excellent performances from the cast. The story of a company producing a musical tells of a young widower who hopes to join his local drama group and not only is he accepted, but after taking many roles ends up in the lead. A very good performance is given by Johnny Ellis as Guy Jones. He is hotly pursued by the Director’s wife well cast in Karen Long. The director is played by Callum Limer and he is absolutely great in this role which has continuous dialogue.
Many of our favourite actors are cast in the various parts, including Lynne Barrett as Enid, Jo Jones as Fay Hubbard, David Vince who recently directed the Noda award winning “David Copperfield” as Jarvis Huntley Pike, Peter Hawkes as Ted Washbrook, and Matt Bendall who received the Noda award for best performer in a musical this year in a small role as Crispin Usher.
Well done to all involved in this very entertaining play. Mention must be given to the excellent set and it’s nice to see Colin Hart on board again. Also well done to the costume department led by Shirley Painter.
