HATS Cabaret Night was Saturday night entertainment at its best in a very relaxed atmosphere.
The venue was well attended and a varied programme was put together, with over 30 people involved for this fund raiser of all ages.
A mix of songs from Les Misérables, Jersey Boys, Glee, Parade, Spamalot, The Bodyguard and Dear Evan Hansen to name but a few.
Interspersed throughout the night were various dances - street and contemporary to a Jason Derulo mix, Beyonce and various others. Dance Attack, as it says on the tin, had energy and vigour - also various other names listed were superb.
Ryan Norse as the compere led us through the evening with banter - even singing with Jade Smith the remix from Glee “Rumour has it” despite his coyness and under playing his singing talents in tux he was a smooth operator.
With 25 acts to name all would take ages to mention here – suffice it to say, it was lovely to hear old and new songs that I had not heard before.
I think the one that spirited me away was Paul Robinson playing on keyboard “Last Five Years Medley” - simply beautiful and enchanting.
The chemistry between Jenny Hubbard and Jamie Taylor singing “The Song That Goes Like This” from Spamalot was as if they had just stepped out of the show to do a turn at the Royal Variety Performance - well executed and funny.
You could hear a pin drop when Chess Leigh gave us her version of “Burn” from Hamilton despite being heavily pregnant – boy, can that lady sing!
One of my favourite songs “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret was sung by Jenny Hubbard and she didn’t disappoint. With emotion and character abound she was the epitome of Sally Bowles.
So many acts to mention but each truly performed well and the variety was well balanced, the audience looked to be lapping it up – a high ‘light’ being ‘Any Dream Will Do’ sung by David Darlington from Joseph, with the audience using their camera torch lights – including me!
This was such a feel good entertaining night I didn’t want it to end and hey, I even won one of the raffle prizes - so that’s a bonus! Thank you for inviting me, Great Saturday Night Hats!
