This performance was a celebration of the first 90 years in the life of Langholm AO&DS. It comprised a compilation of music, song and dance from shows that this company has performed since its inception.
Brenda Morrison acted as MC for the evening giving us a global geography lesson starting in Japan with the Mikado which was the first show performed by the Company in 1923. Thereafter we moved to Thailand with the King and I, then jumped to London Town with a selection from My Fair Lady, Me and my Girl, and the first half finished with Oliver! After the interval we jumped across to good old USA with renditions from Annie Get Your Gun, Oklahoma, Calamity Jane and Carousel and finally Hello, Dolly! before retracing our steps to Austria for a final Goodbye.
This was a well presented show and a lot of thought had gone into the make up to give a reflection of the shows this society has performed over the years. A good mix of voices and characters was used, ranging from some members of their youth section to some of the more mature and I cannot single out any one individual as the whole cast performed their songs either as a chorus or individually with great aplomb.
With the breadth of talent this society has I can see it lasting at least another 90 years and wish them every success. I look forward to my next visit to Langholm. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.
