Crigglestone Community Theatre Company delivered a stellar performance of "9 to 5," a musical comedy that humorously explores workplace dynamics and empowerment. Directed and choreographed by Dean Patrick, with musical direction by Wil Jones, the production showcased local talent in a lively and engaging show.

The atmosphere at Ossett Town Hall was lively and welcoming, with the audience eagerly anticipating an evening of entertainment. The venue was filled with community members excited to support their local theatre production.

Emma Jeffreys shone as Violet Newstead, portraying strength and determination with her commanding presence. Alison Warren captured the essence of Doralee Rhodes with charisma and vocal prowess, reminiscent of the character's iconic portrayal by Dolly Parton. Francine Phillips brought depth and growth to Judy Bernly.

Darren Smith delivered a memorable performance as Franklin Hart Jr., skillfully balancing humor and disdain in his portrayal. His facial expressions were particularly notable, timed perfectly with the orchestration, adding layers of humor and characterization to his role. His rendition of "Here For You" showcased both his vocal talent and demonstrated just how egotistical and bigoted the character is.

Claire Adams as Roz Keith, the office busybody, stood out with her performance of "Heart to Hart." Adams bravely embraced the character's comedic and slightly risqué choreography, earning laughter and applause from the audience. Her vocals were smooth and consistent throughout the performance.

Jo Sykes demonstrated her comedic brilliance as Margaret, the office alcoholic. Her impeccable timing and physical acting had the audience roaring with laughter from her first entrance to her final scene.

The entire cast demonstrated exceptional commitment to their roles, creating a cohesive and energetic ensemble. It was clear that each performer enjoyed their time on stage, contributing to a memorable and engaging performance. For me though, special mention must go to Graeme Hemingway as Joe. His performance was a delightful surprise, showcasing a fabulous voice and a heartfelt connection with Jeffreys on stage. It was lovely to see him in more than a cameo role and I really hope to see more from him in the future.

The audience responded enthusiastically throughout the performance, with laughter and applause echoing through the hall. "9 to 5" resonated with viewers of all ages, celebrating themes of empowerment, camaraderie, and standing up against injustice in the workplace. However, at times, it was challenging to hear some of the performers clearly due to unbalanced sound levels. This issue occasionally affected the audience's ability to fully appreciate the vocal performances and dialogue which was a shame after all the hard work that had clearly been put in.

Overall, Crigglestone Community Theatre Company's production of "9 to 5" was a triumph, showcasing local talent and a true sense of community spirit. The cast's commitment and enthusiasm illuminated the stage, creating a memorable evening of entertainment. Congratulations to all involved.
