I have not seen the stage show before and was looking forward to seeing it. I was not disappointed. It opened with Dolly Parton introducing us to the characters Violet Newstead (Angela Fisher) a widow who was an efficient and long serving employee of the company and her son Josh (Joe Smith) . Judy Bearnly (Abbie Lloyd) a shy unsure recently abandoned wife, new to the company and inept as never having had to work before. Doralee Rhodes (Helen Burton) the “Dolly”as hinted at by Dolly herself, the private Secretary to the Boss. All the actors captured the essence of their parts and adjusted character as the story unfolded. The singing of the three ladies was excellent and the costumes suited their characters too.
The Company Executive Franklin Hart JR (Jonathan Campbell) Treating people who worked for him badly and chasing after Doralee. Jonathan played the character to perfection. I found him truly repulsive so well done. His loyal sycophantic assistant Roz Keith (Michelle Bates) as very good and I really enjoyed her Heart to Hart number as did the audience.
Joe ( Dan Lord – Charlesworth) The Junior Finance Director.(Dean Patrick) The husband of Judy, Tins worthy (Gary Holmes) Chief Executive and Office staff, Police, Nurse and Clerk made up the Singers, Dancers and Scenery Shifters all of them made the show very enjoyable and I am glad it all ended happily and that Franklin was sent to Bolivia.
The orchestra led by Musical Director Ian Abbott played well and with enthusiasm. The backdrop done with projection particularly the clock added to the show.
All this Directed & Choreographed by Dean Patrick
