As I entered the Memorial Hall foyer it was so nice to be greeted by some of the long standing members of DTC and DOSYTCo.In these times when many societies are finding survival very hard it is a pleasure to celebrate with a company their 70 years anniversary.

This concert was a collaboration between the adult and youth sections of the company and what a success this proved to be. It was nice to see the experience of the adult members and the energy and enthusiasm of the youth theatre members making such a great combination. The simple set allowed people to enter and leave the stage without being caught in the usual queues and so the show flowed very well. The stylish costumes were very effective. Using the royal blue as the key colour was a clever idea, it meant that every scene involving the whole company became a wash of colour and this combined with good lighting made a glorious spectacle. The array of vocal talent also shone through with some very strong individual performances from both adult and youth members. What a pleasure it was to hear the wall of sound that came from the stage in the large ensemble numbers. The band, under the competent baton of Dave Cowie, coped well with all of the different genres of music and produced a good clear sound that complimented many of the songs. The dancing and movement, created by Georgia Millan and rehearsed by Danielle Standing, enhanced each sequence and allowed the pieces to be seamlessly linked whilst constantly moving. Helen Cowie had obviously worked very hard with the company to achieve this standard of production. It would be wrong to single out performers as this concert was a celebration of the whole company so it is to the company that I say thank you and I look forward to seeing many more productions in the future.

Just as a footnote it was also nice to see the company trying to comply with copyright and licensing rules, so often flouted in concerts, it shows it can be done.
