On the Sunday preceding Armistice, KAOS assembled in the Grand Hall, Kilmarnock an almost equal number of singers and musicians under the baton of the maestro Gordon Cree to mark the Armistice in music and song. Guest artiste was Britain’s “Queen of Operetta” Marilyn Hill Smith whose singing charmed the capacity audience. The large and effective chorus contained many weel kent faces from KAOS itself and from other amateur Societies with numbers from “Oklahoma!”, “Chicago” and other shows and as a teaser to KAOS’s forthcoming annual Show in March, numbers from “Hairspray”. The opening montage featured songs from shows previously staged by the Society and the Gordon Cree Concert Orchestra featured in two major presentations in the first half of the programme orchestrated and arranged by the maestro himself. The second half of the Concert included the raison d’etre for this wonderful annual event – the Remembrance Readings and Orchestral Tribute. All in all, a lovely evening’s entertainment tinged with a little sadness.
