In this season of marathons, Brechin Amateur Operatic Society's members and in particular, the production team of Gordon and Liz Smith, could be forgiven for thinking that they had completed a double marathon by the time they completed their show celebrating fifty years since the Society was revived in 1964. A company of over forty old and new members with ages ranging from mid teens to early nineties performed over fifty numbers plus medleys from 32 shows, providing their audiences with a truly outstanding Golden Anniversary feast of music. It would be unfair of me to detail any individuals as the quality of performance by every soloist, duetist, ensemble and chorus was of the highest quality with performances being shared by all ages, proving that some of the "old stagers" could still "strut their stuff", including five members who took part in the production of "Bless the Bride" in 1964-65. A very well balanced eight-piece band provided the accompaniment and Gordon is to be congratulated on his arrangement and Liz for the choreography performed by various dancers in front of the tiered chorus staging. Everyone involved on stage behind stage, and in front of stage is to be congratulated for providing such a marvelous evening of memories and nostalgia for those of us in the audience who had seen their shows throughout the last fifty years. Congratulations BAOS.
