42nd Street is a glitzy glamorous show and this production certainly provided plenty of both. The dancing numbers, as one would only expect from Louise Denison, were excellent with a fabulous presentation of 'We're in the Money'. John Hall as Julian Marsh was a commanding figure on stage as he controlled his cast for his new musical 'Pretty Lady'. His temperamental leading lady Dorothy Brock was played to perfection by Laura Judge. It was a delight to listen to her singing and she gave everything to the role. As in all good stories disaster happens and newcomer Peggy Sawyer (Lydia Bradd) takes over the leading role. She danced superbly and came over well as the eager 'new girl'. Helping her along the way was Billy (Ben Walton) with a nice relaxed performance. There was a good comedy parnership of Maggie (Samantha Griffiths) and Bert (Jonty Wilson) and they came over very well in 'Shuffle off to Buffalo'.The supporting cast were strong and well suited to their parts. The singing throughout both from principals and company was excellent and a well controlled orchestra added to the good sound. The costumes were beautiful with lots of sparkle and great attention had been given to wigs and accessories.
One small criticism was that I did find the sound a little too loud especially during the dialogue but at least it meant we didn't miss anything.
A slick polished production that gave the audience an evening to remember.
