As the curtain opened on the auditions for ‘Pretty Lady’, the entire company tapped us into Broadway’s best loved tap-dancing extravaganza! This production was very well cast with Alyson Lamond as the enthusiastic but nervous new chorus girl Peggy Sawyer, who provided a flawless performance. Andrew Scott made a great Billy Lawler, the leading tenor in ‘Pretty Lady’ and Roy McGregor’s interpretation of the famous but notorious, director, Julian Marsh was excellent. As past her prime prima donna Dorothy Brock, Audrey Howie provided a strong performance which was matched by Neil Anderson as her Texan ‘Sugar Daddy’ Abner Dillon, and Dave Fairclough as Pat Denning her former vaudeville partner and love interest. All other principles blended well and collectively brought out the humor within the show. Through singing and movement, the chorus and dancers added to this splendid production which was well costumed. Although the staging was minimalistic, it did not detract from the show. With a wonderful orchestra, well known songs and a familiar story we left the auditorium suitably entertained!
