Falkirk Operatic Society, have been presenting their annual Cabaret for many years, taking on a different theme each year.  This year’s presentation was aptly entitled 2ND Generation and proved to be the correct title.

The show was extremely upbeat, showcasing the popular rock and pop hits of the last few decades, intermingled with selections from Les Miserable, Priscilla and Wicked and even included a selection from the new Scottish feel good film Sunshine on Leith coupled with a selection from the Bond Films.

It was encouraging to see so many younger members of the society being given an opportunity to showcase their talents, which is sometimes not possible in the main show in April.

Lesley Scott’s choreography enhanced the production with well drilled movement.

All too often we hear complaints that the band is too loud and drowns out the vocals and this could have been the case with the genre of music in this show.  However praise must go to Crawford Moyes for his control of the 7 piece band and at no times were the vocals lost.

Special mention must go to the following soloists Anne MacLaren, Jenny Dixon, Shirley McNulty, Susan McFarlane, Carol Sutherland, Malcolm McNulty and Gavin Orr.  I have to single out Rebecca Anderson for her overall performances and stage presence

The company were well full of enthusiasm and the show was simply and effectively staged by producer Lorna Wallace, with some very clever lighting effects.

Congratulations to the production team and company for a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment.
