What a pleasure to see so many happy smiling faces on the stage of the Shanklin Theatre.  24 hours at the Kit Kat Club sped by, with a jolly story line set in the nineteen twenties, accompanied by many well loved songs. It was clear to the packed audience of families and supporters that the cast were having a ball, as could be seen from their so happy expressions and joyful unselfconsciousness in the musical numbers. And that’s what it’s all about. An opportunity to perform, to enhance self esteem and confidence and to enjoy the same pleasurable experience that so many of us in the am dram world achieve. Carole Laidler and Vivien Russell with their very able team of adult volunteer performers must have worked so hard to make this show a great success and they are to be complimented – and that is not to make light of the contributions of all the adult helpers both on stage and behind the scenes whose talents contributed to the success of the show.   What a good idea to set the storyline in a night club; all human life is here and there was an opportunity for everyone to become involved and use their individual skills, from magic tricks, song and dance to corny jokes – don’t we love ‘em.   I especially loved the opening of the second half with the rousing “Tonight’s the Night” and "We`re in the Money and Liz Hampton as Fluffy Galore in her twenties “mink coat” was e very inch the vamp of the twenties cinema with her rendition of “I Wanna Be Loved by You". Ross Forde, in his second show with First Act, excelled as the cabaret compere and when he auditioned the dancing girls he brought the house down   Too many individual performances to comment upon them all, but let it be s aid that First Act goes from strength to strength, having earlier faced a number of difficulties that might have daunted other companies. However, under the new positive structure the future looks assured for this group and I am sure we all wish them even greater success for the future
