20 Years in the Spotlight

This anniversary production celebrated twenty years of Spotlight Youth Productions, and if enthusiasm could be bottled and sold then the company would be millionaires.

The production under the direction of Steve Groves, Karen Lyon and Michele Windsor plus musical directors Chris Allen and Ian Windsor highlighted seven productions staged by this company during the last twenty years.  The evening started off with seven numbers from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat.  This got the evening off to a great start.  Moving onto Summer Holiday and Godspell (Loved the puppets telling part of the story) we finished the first act with a rousing performance of songs from Bugsy Malone, and were given a lovely performance of 'My Name is Tallulah' by Olivia Mallard. 

To commence act two we had five songs from return to the Forbidden Planet.  Then onto West Side Story where Eve Hilditch gave us a wonderful version of 'Somewhere'.  Then onto the finale, We will Rock You, in which most of the audience joined in.  In fact some of the past members of the company joined the current members on stage.  The company ended with everyone singing Bohemian Rhapsody with some wonderful harmonies. 

The members worked overtime in some of the songs.  I wondered how they all remembered the choreography.  The back projections used looked good and the lighting ensured a first class production. 

As this was opening night there were a few technical issues.  At times in the first half you could not hear the singing over the orchestra but this was sorted by the second act.
