13 The Musical is a story that follows 12-year old Evan Goldman who is plucked from his fast-paced New York City life to the sleepy Indiana town of Appleton following his parent’s divorce. Surrounded by an array of middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order and prepare for his impending Bar Mitzvah.
The cast included Louie Peagam who gave a confident performance in the demanding central role of Evan, I was particularly impressed by this vocal and performance abilities. Lucy Wrench gave a very good performance as the trustworthy and dependable Patrice and Henry Rhodes used his comedic timing well with just enough underlying pathos in the complex role of Archie.
There were good performances from Aris Kokkinou as the school sports star Brett and Ella Kendrick as Kendra the popular girl in the school, while Holly Hornby gave an excellent performance as Kendra’s envious and scheming friend Lucy.
Benjamin Connor Davies's choreography as always was excellent and well executed by the cast, all of whom seemed to be enjoying their performances.
The staging for this production was simple but effective and set changes were slick. Lighting was nicely used and the clarity of both sound and performers was excellent.
This was a demanding musical for a youth group but it had enormous heart and was full of great team work, overall a show with great energy and a talented cast.
Congratulations to everyone involved with this enjoyable and dynamic production, which the audience enjoyed immensely, thank you for your invitation to attend.
