SAOS YOUTH SECTION

13 The Musical was premièred on Broadway in 2008 with original music and lyrics by Tony Award winning composer, Jason Robert Brown with book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn with a cast entirely made up of teenagers.

This musical was the choice for SAOS Youth Theatre debut production. It is an hilarious coming of age rock musical that takes us from fast-paced New York to sleepy Appleton Indiana.

Congratulations to the Director for a lot of hard work in drilling routine after routine into these young people with good results. The singing harmonies from the company of just 28 was strong and the MD had good control of the band.

The lead Evan Goldman who is about to turn 13 was played with confidence by Oliver Keeling and you could see he had worked hard to master the vocals. As Patrice Hannah Shillingford gave a superb convincing performance. James Bastable did a great job as Archie and captured his character well. Brett the schools football star (who all the girls want to date ) was played by Tom O'Leary who gave a competent performance. Shannon Lee gave an assured performance as Lucy the friend who should not be trusted .  India Sinton as Kendra the most popular girl in the school also gave a crediable performance. The best laughs of the night went to the two school goons played by George Blower (Eddie) and Harry Way (Malcom) who gave very entertaining performances. All the other principals gave good support and maintained their charaters throughout.

Thank you for your hospitality and a great night I look forward to your next production.
