It was a pleasure to stand in for my fellow rep. David Black and attend Hamilton ODC’s celebratory concert 120 years and beyond. It was a lovely evening of musical theatre and celebrations for this impressive milestone for the club. I would like to thank President Christopher for the lovely warm welcome Daniel, and I received. The whole production was a joy to watch, and I was dancing in my seat all night.
The concert was split into two enjoyable halfs, which flew past with slick changes between song sections and individual numbers. The first half featured 6 sections celebrating different styles and time-periods of musicals including; “The Early Years – The Music of Tin Pan Alley”, “The Golden Years – Music of Traditional Broadway” and “State of the Art – Music of Contemporary Broadway”. The selections for each blended various songs together keeping an impressive fast pace up and allowing the full cast to be showcased and highlighted with numerous solo features. The talent from everyone in this half was outstanding and the smooth changing of places, movement and choreography around the tighter stage area was remarkable and should be commended.
The second half featured a variety of songs all amazing, but standout moments for me were definitely the full ensemble in “Welcome to the Rock”, the solo number “Journey to the Past”, and the girls performing “Six”. I was also very impressed with the James Bond Medley. All soloists in the second half were fantastic and showed a great range in vocal styles while maintaining a very high standard. As with the first half, the full ensemble were engaged in their own performance and a joy to watch.
Well received by the cheering audience, this was a perfect way to celebrate 120 years of Hamilton ODC … here’s to the next 120!!
