The Importance of Being Earnest

We’ve probably all invented an excuse to avoid some social event we would rather not attend.  The two eligible bachelors, Algernon and Jack, have raised their excuses to an art form – but can they keep these plates spinning when love strikes ?  And, even more importantly, under fierce cross-examination by a domineering prospective mother-in-law ?

In his sublime comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde creates characters we can recognise.  It may be set in Victorian society of the 1890s, but we still fall in love, still want the best for our children, still try to write novels, are still economical with the truth.

And the word-play ?  Simply brilliant.
