How can you transform a night, meant for a sophisticated dinner party, into a farce filled with increasingly convoluted lies and cover-ups?

One solid starting point is the need for four middle-class, politically ambitious couples to conceal their knowledge of a gunshot that occurred before the party even began. In Neil Simon's ‘Rumours’, these four couples arrive at an extravagant home only to find one of their hosts is missing and the other has a gunshot wound. To protect their reputations and political aspirations, they weave a web of absurd lies and cover-ups.

Set against the backdrop of 1980s middle-class England, this farcical comedy features eight of London’s most eccentric personalities. They must navigate a series of escalating crises while desperately hiding their individual secrets. The play highlights Simon's comedy genius and illustrates that whilst one rumour can change the course of an evening, and two can make it unforgettable, it takes a multitude to spark a truly uproarious comedic explosion.
