RENT

Rent, a rock musical, with music, book and lyrics by Jonathon Larson, tells the story of a group of young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York City’s East Village under the shadow of HIV/AIDS in the late 1980’s.

The narrative follows their lives over the course of a year, highlighting their battles with poverty, addiction, and the search for meaning and connection. Central to the story are characters Mark, Roger, Mimi, Collins, Angel, Maureen, Joanne and Benny. Through their intertwined lives, Rent explores themes of love, loss, and the enduring power of friendship and community.

RENT’s message is one of resilience, love, and the importance of living life to its fullest despite adversity. It was needed when the show originally opened in 1996, and is still so relevant today. Audiences around the world have been enjoying RENT for the past two decades, and we cannot wait to bring this iconic musical to The Place Theatre.

Rehearsal Rooms Theatre.

A brand-new theatre company has arrived in Bedford! Bex Badham and Rachel Clifford make up the creative minds behind the new theatre company, Rehearsal Rooms Theatre. Having studied and worked in music and theatre throughout their careers, they have decided to come together and bring a high standard of musical theatre to the community of Bedford.

“We know that Bedford is so rich with talent of all ages, and we would love to showcase more of that! Knowing that The Place Theatre had an opening for a musical theatre group, it has been a pleasure to work with the theatre to ensure that we have a home for our first musical and we are connecting with the established community of The Place and Bedfordshire.”
