Charles Dickens novel by Alan Clarke. The play will be performed from Thursday 27th to Saturday 29th November, in Alvechurch Village Hall.

This fast-paced adaptation of Dickens' classic novel tells the tale of the fact-obsessed Thomas Gradgrind and his family, in particular his two eldest children, Louisa and Tom. Can their strict education prepare them for the challenges of life - including Louisa's marriage to the pompous Mr Bounderby, and Tom's gambling related money troubles? Meanwhile, mill worker Stephen Blackpool finds himself ostracised by his colleagues as he yearns for co-worker Rachel. When the local bank is robbed, the finger of suspicion is quickly pointed... Add in to the mix a range of classic Dickensian characters, from circus manager Mr Sleary to the mysterious Mrs Pegler, and the scene is set for a great night of theatre!

The show runs from Thursday 27th - Saturday 29th November 2025. Performances start at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10; £9 concessions and are available from The Lounge, Alvechurch, by texting 07907 543868 or by emailing ads.alvechurch@gmail.com.
