Chesterfield Operatic Society was formed in January 1905 with its first production - Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado. The show was presented in, what was then, the Corporation Theatre (now the Pomegranate Theatre) where all of the Society's shows have been staged throughout its over 100-year history, and was a great success.
Apart from two breaks caused by the two world wars, there has been a continuous run. Each production has brought new faces and new voices before the operatic audience and the Society is proud to still be welcoming talented new members.
The Society is fully self-supporting, receiving no financial assistance other than Patrons' subscriptions.
Rehearsals are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Operatic Society's rehearsal rooms at 5a Abercrombie Street, Chesterfield. Rehearsals start at 7.30pm and finish between 9.30pm and 10pm, depending on the production and the nature of the rehearsal.
