Certainly a challenge but how they rose to the occasion. The music and movement were excellent but more than that they achieved the feeling of the piece, certainly ranking alongside many senior productions. Well done Chris and Dave it does demonstrate what very good preparation can achieve. The cast had excellent leads with Kristian Cunningham as Tony and Laura Allen as Maria, with Laura in particular giving an outstanding performance, way beyond her years. There were inspired performances also from George Ramplin, Bernardo, Tom Hopcroft, Riff and Betsymae Kirkland-Ball as Anita, with great character development from all three. In fact all the cast deserve praise as they all played an important part in the success of the show. This does include the younger members with Hayden Fletcher, Baby John, being a shining example. The choreography and dance were also excellent, in particular the “fight scene” which was superb. The well designed set was all that was required and was well used. The lighting was effective, costumes and props were fine and the backstage work was efficient throughout . The special choral finale was wonderful, a fitting end to a memorable production. With talent like this coming through our Senior Groups must have a bright future.
