A Gershwin Medley superbly performed by the whole Company set the scene for what was to be a wonderful evening of well chosen musical items. During the concert there were two more medley sequences performed by the whole company, a Bond Medley and an Oklahoma Medley. All the numbers in these were splendidly delivered, the singing and the imaginative choreography were wonderful. We were treated to some excellent renditions by soloists and smaller groupings too many in fact to mention them all, but those I particularly liked were ‘When I Grow Up’( Matilda) delightfully sung by Kat Fenton, a great interpretation of ‘The Life I Never Led’(Sister Act) was given by Jess Hutton, ‘With You’ (Ghost) was sung with so much feeling by Stacey Hyndman and ‘Holding Out for a Hero’ (Footloose) was performed with great gusto by Jen Lewis and her backing group of five girls. Becky Dunning and Charlie Orme performed a stunning dance routine ‘Nowadays’ (Chicago). Not to be outdone by the adults there were four numbers by the Junior section of the company all of which were charmingly presented and Daniel Shaw who magnificently sang ‘Little People’ (Les Miserables) is definitely a star in the making. Congratulations must go to BJMT Musical Director, Jess Hutton and to Stacey Hyndman for the Movement. Becky Dunning and Charlie Orme performed a stunning dance routine ‘Nowadays’ (Chicago). There was an excellent dance ‘Nowadays’ (Chicago) Two exceptional highlights for me were ‘Wherever You Are’ and ‘You Raise Me Up’. The first was made famous by The Military Wives and the soloist for this number, Jess Hutton, dedicated it to her fiancé who has served in Afghanistan. It was made even more poignant by the back projection of photographs of the couple. The second was sung in memory of Linda Furnival, a life member of the Belper Musical Theatre who died earlier this year. A small band gave excellent support to the energetic and enthusiastic company and together with good lighting and splendid back projections it was obvious that ‘You Can’t Stop The beat’ (Hairspray) as was shown by the superb execution of their penultimate number. Congratulations to all involved.
