With faces old and new we swashbuckled to Treasure Island in true pantomime style. With a nautical flavour, pirates galore, thigh slapping, girls playing boys and vice versa, a touch of romance and great audience participation Amy encouraged some very good characterisation from her large cast. Perhaps a little under rehearsed with some interesting ad-libbing but hey this was panto. Colourful costumes throughout. Effective flats and backdrops depicting The Admiral Benbow, The Hispaniola and Treasure Island, green foliage and a huge cooking pot all designed and constructed by members and students. Plenty of good personal props. Sound needed a boost at times. Excellent comedy from Clam and Scallop, Carol Gasson and Sarah Givertz with a vast number of costume changes but always wearing those twitching moustaches. Jack Greenhalf made the perfect Dame Hawkins, opposite smooth Mr Darce performed by Mark Piotrowski. Charlotte Rendle ably played Smollett with strong performances from a couple of younger pirates, Ursula and Kieran Kerswell. We booed Black Spot – Clare Murray, a great baddy whilst Rachel Kimber waved her magic wand as Albatross. Bez Cuss came across well as Long John Silver managing his patch, leg, hook and talking parrot alias Andy Godfrey – oh those jokes! To the rest of the cast members – a good effort.
