Set in the musty Library of Monument House, home of the freakish Tomb Family, this black comedy, although cast members are eliminated one by one, keeps us guessing who the murderer is right up to the last minute. The set gave one an eerie feel to the proceedings as soon as one entered the auditorium. The piece was well cast, with each character putting his or her mark on their task, and teamwork was evident throughout the play. One or two suspect moments with the script, nevertheless all characters rose to the occasion.
A huge challenge for Eric Maggs as family solicitor Hamilton Penworthy who like many of the cast did not live to see the finale. Good contribution from Director Peter Weston as Marcus Tomb, Olwen Jones as quirky Dora Tomb, Alan Skellern as Lucien Tomb, Paula Carr as Monica Tomb and a commanding performance from Julia Roberts as the pedantic Emily Tomb. Bryony Mascord portrayed Housekeeper Agatha Hammond whilst we witnesssed a professional characterisation of Nurse Anne Franklin from Liz Crooke. Stylish performance from Leisha Keane posing as Freda Mountjoy, arriving at Monument House with the nervous blundering Peregrine Potter, expertly played by Paul Dunn.
The summer run continues to be popular and well supported and credit must be given to everyone involved for their steadfastness and ingenuity.
