Thirty five years and still counting! The faces change but the production line of young talent continues unabated.
This was not so much a review of the last 35 years, but a celebration of the fact that the enthusiasm generated by Phil and Margaret Jones, Ian Wilson and the stalwarts of the group attracts as much appeal to the members of LYMT today as that of their predecessors, some of whom returned to participate in this fun filled evening.
The show consisted of songs from the musicals, the vast majority of which had not even been written when LYMT was formed in March 1978.
LYMT were ably supported by Stagenotes; a group formed more recently to offer opportunities to even younger members. The blend of the younger group members with their slightly older counterparts added successfully to the evening’s entertainment. In some respects it may seem unfair to single out any particular performers for praise as this was very much a team effort. However, the standout moment for me was the cameo performance of young Carys Borland in the section from “Matilda”. The power and delivery of her rendition of “When I grow up” was a real highlight. However, she was certainly not alone.
The awards and praise heaped upon the group are justifiable testimony for all the hard work, endeavour (oh yes and fun) clearly had by all those involved at every level both on and off stage. You said at the outset that “We will rock you”, and you certainly delivered on that promise.
