Long Eaton Operatic Society gave an efficient and enjoyable production of this well known Rogers and Hammerstein musical. The opening chorus of the Nuns Preludium, set the scene, with exquisite singing which was maintained throughout by the ladies chorus. A creditable performance by Emma Kelvey as Maria, who sang the much loved songs with poise. Andrew Elcock provided admirable support with a good performance as the widowed Captain Von Trapp. They complimented each other well.

The children were excellent, well drilled and confident in their parts. Nice performance from Abigail Pidgeon as Liesl, a delightful `Sixteen Going on Seventeen` with Curtis Salmon as Rolf.

Angela Walters gave a tender portrayal as the Mother Abbess, with a powerful `Climb Every Mountain`. There was good support from Tony Newton as the scheming Max. The highlight performance for me was Mandy Walker as a most elegant and convincing Countess Schraeder.

A good well balanced orchestra backed the performers and gave impetus to the production.
