Silchester Players production of the “trivial comedy for serious people” known as “The Importance of Being Earnest” was a delightful production. Every member of the cast contributed strongly to the excellent direction of this popular play - they maintained their characters throughout and the wardrobe had dressed them in very fitting outfits. The set was simply executed and most effectively created the scenes with appropriate props.
The cast are to be congratulated on maintaining a good pace throughout. The interaction between Algernon Moncrieff and John Worthing was spontaneous and the part of Lady Bracknell was played to great effect. Miss Prism was well cast. Cecily and Gwendolen made a really good pair of conspirators at the end. Every member of the cast very ably maintained their persona throughout. At no time did the production lag and the diction was superb.
The director had both foresight in his casting and vision in his direction to create a most rounded performance which enthralled the audience such that they were not aware of the passing of time.
