Everyone remembers the TV series of The Darling Buds of May, and it is therefore difficult not to watch another production without drawing comparisons.
This was a valiant effort on the part of the Nunthorpe Players, especially for Jim Woods, as Pa Larkin, who hardly ever left the stage for the whole of the performance (except for his trips into Bluebell Wood!) He was ably supported by Sara Ramrekha, as Ma Larkin, his free thinking partner (wedding bells were in the air by the end of the play) but at times some of her dialogue was lost.
Brenton James, as Mr Charlton, was a convincing bumbling tax inspector, and a perfect target for the very attractive Marietta, well played by Charlie Jukes.
There was some lovely interplay between Edith Pilchester, played byNorma Timney, and Pa Larkin, and the rest of the cast contributed well to the sense of fun. It was an enjoyable evening’s entertainment, and thank you for the invitation.
